Anagallis arvensis (scarlet pimpernel)

Anagallis arvensis (Myrsinaceae) - scarlet pimpernel; native to Europe - fruit (pyxidium) with seeds; the capsule of the scarlet pimpernel opens with a lid. The stiff persistent style at the apex may assist in the removal of the lid as the capsule is touched by a passing animal or brushes against the other plants when shaken by the wind; diameter of fruit 4mm.
