The Norwegian architect Peter Pran, practised first in his native Norway, then worked in Chicago with Mies van der Rohe and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill before joining Ellerbe Becket in 1986 as Design Principal. Over the years, he has won twenty honorary awards from The American Institute of Architects and twelve international competitions.
Pran was instrumental in raising Ellerbe Becket's profile by winning a number of design competitions, including the New York City Police Academy and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. He also won a number of international commissions including large projects in Indonesia, Malaysia and Korea. In 1996 he moved to NBBJ taking with him a major project - the 50-storey Graha Kuningan tower in Jakarta.
Peter Pran has always worked on his cutting-edge designs with a team of young designers using state-of-the-art computer technology. He has not imported the computer into traditional design but has completely rethought the whole process. This enables him to work totally in three-dimensions and to provide his prospective clients with a clear vision of their future building both inside and out and of its impact on the site.
With its detailed presentation of all recent work, its introduction to Peter Pran's design technology and its appendices that include a list of selected buildings and projects and an annotated bibliography, this monograph provides an essential introduction to this important international architect.
